Can inmates bring/listen to music on a CD player or MP3? Can they bring books?

no, they can't bring cd players or mp3 players. They can't bring books either - they have to have them sent. Somebody on the outside has to buy them and ship them to the jail straight from the manufacturer (someone like amazon, barnes and noble, borders, etc).

No, unless they can get work release they can't smoke in jail. For a lot of inmates that's the hardest thing about jail.
